My name is Paulina Bohdanowicz.

My academic carrier began in 1995 when I was accepted as a student at the Faculty of Chemistry at the Gdansk University of Technology, Gdansk, Poland. I graduated in 1999 with the Bachelor Degree in Environmental Protection and Management.

Then I moved to Stockholm, Sweden to continue my studying, and in 2000 I achieved a Master Degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering at the Department of Energy Technology at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.

Between 2000 and 2006 I was a PhD student in the research project “Energy Efficiency and Conservation in Hotels” within the Sustainable Building System research group at the Department of Energy Technology, Royal Institute of Technology (Kungl Tekniska Högskolan), Stockholm, Sweden.

Between March 2005 and December 2006 I worked as a coordinator of Hilton's Hilton Environmental Reporting (HER) system used by Hilton and Scandic. I was later also responsible for the Scandic Sustainability Indicator Reporting (ScandicSIR) tool.

On February 3, 2005 I received the Doctoral Degree in Social Science (doktor nauk humanistycznych) at the University of Gdansk, Poland presenting thesis entitled: Kształtowanie świadomości ekologicznej przez usługi turystyczne jako globalne wyzwanie społeczno - politycznej. The thesis has been published as a book by Wydawnictwo Adam Marszalek.

On October 30, 2006 I received the Doctoral Degree in Technical Science at the Royal Institute of Technology, presenting thesis entitled: Responsible resource management in hotels – attitudes, indicators, tools and strategies.

Between October 2006 and September 2007 I was working at the Technical University of Gdansk, and then between October 2007 and June 2008 at the Gdansk Academy of Sports and Physical Education.

Currently I am utilising my knowledge and expanding my practical experience by working as a sustainability manager for a major hospitality company.

My area of interest includes corporate social responsibility and environmental issues in the hotel, travel and tourism industry, with particular focus on energy aspects (consumption patterns, energy efficiency and conservation possibilities, as well as applicability of renewable energies). I am also interested in eco-certification and eco-labelling schemes, as well as environmental reporting and benchmarking tools for the hotel and tourism industry. The influence that behaviour, of staff as well as guests, has on the energy consumption patters in a hotel facility and possible methods of altering behaviour are part of my research area. I also perform investigations on how tourism can enhance the environmental awareness among the general public, as well as the tools that can be developed and used to that end. Recently I am working on modelling and forecasting of resource consumption in the hotel facilities, as well as perform investigations on benchmarks and benchmarking weighting factors for hotel components.
